1. About sodood
sodood ("the site", "we") is an educational reference — an atlas and magazine about the world’s dams and barriers. It is provided for information, research and curiosity. It is not an engineering, safety, legal or investment resource, and nothing on the site constitutes professional advice.
2. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using sodood you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. We may update these terms from time to time; the "last updated" date below reflects the current version, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
3. Data, sources & accuracy
The atlas combines open datasets — including GRanD, GOODD, Global Dam Watch and OpenStreetMap — with our own editorial research. Each dam file cites its sources. We work hard to keep the data honest, but dam records are historical, multilingual and frequently revised: coordinates, heights, capacities and dates may be outdated, estimated or simply wrong. The data is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, and must not be relied on for navigation, engineering, safety or emergency purposes.
4. Underlying dataset licenses
The underlying datasets remain the property of their respective publishers and are used under their own licenses (for example, OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL). If you reuse data you obtained through sodood, you are responsible for complying with the license of the original source cited on the relevant file.
5. Our content
Original editorial content — essays, dossier prose, figures, illustrations and the sodood name and star-ribbon mark — is © 2026 sodood, all rights reserved. You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link. Republishing whole articles, scraping the site at scale, or using the sodood brand without permission is not allowed.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to disrupt or overload the site, attempt to gain unauthorized access to its systems, misrepresent sodood content as your own, or use the site in any way that violates applicable law.
7. Third-party services & links
Map tiles are served by CARTO with data from OpenStreetMap. The site links to external datasets, publications and websites we do not control and are not responsible for.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, sodood and its contributors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of — or inability to use — the site or its data, including decisions made in reliance on the information presented.
9. Corrections & contact
Found an error? We treat corrections as first-class contributions. Write to hello@sodood.com and include the file number where possible.
In plain words: sodood is a labor of love about dams. Explore freely, cite your sources, don't build anything load-bearing on our numbers, and tell us when we get something wrong.
